Body Composition

The ImpediVet is a Bioimpedance Spectroscopy (BIS) device for quickly and accurately measuring Body Composition in animals (a device for use with humans is also available).

This gives researchers monitoring the health of animal subjects accurate assessments of Fat Mass, Fat Free Mass, Total Body Water, Intracellular Fluid and Extracellular Fluid. Further data analysis can be undertaken in the supporting software included with device.

The ImpediVET is a single channel, tetra polar bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) device that scans 256 frequencies between 4 kHz and 1000 kHz in less than a second. The device utilizes Complex Impedance Plotting to determine total body water (TBW), extracellular fluid (ECF) and intracellular fluid (ICF) from impedance data. Fat-free mass (FFM) and fat mass (FM) are then calculated on the device.

Quick and Easy to Use

Place the anaesthetized animal dorsal side up, and insert the electrodes. Measure the distance between the sensing electrodes. On the device, enter the subject information and press "Measure". It's that simple.

Accurate

Validation studies confirm that bioimpedance spectroscopy correlates highly with DEXA and reference methods providing you with accurate assessments of Fat Mass, Fat Free Mass, Total Body Water, Intracellular Fluid and Extracellular Fluid.

Flexible

The ImpediVet can be used on multiple species, with use of preprogrammed species information and flexibility to enter user-defined species information. ImpediVET can be used on both large and small animal species.

Portable

On-board computing, touch screen operation and lithium battery power-source allows for testing in a variety of laboratory settings. Easy to clean surface allows for use in clean rooms or bioharzardous areas.

The ImpediMed Imp-SFB7 is a similar device for use in humans, with particular application to sports medicine.
