Welcome to the website for A Day in the Bush, first published by New Holland Publishers (Australia) Pty. Ltd. in 2000 and revised and reprinted in August 2005.

Obtaining a copy: The book can be purchased for a modest price through regular booksellers and bushwalking and camping stores.

A Day in the Bush is the ideal guide to day and half-day bushwalking in and around Sydney. The book was designed with the needs of inexperienced as well as experienced bushwalkers clearly in mind. This is reflected in the way the walk descriptions are laid out, the detail that is provided and the quality of the maps. A Day in the Bush features 45 walks. Some are only a few hours long and all are suitable for children (although some should not be attempted by younger children).

Each entry provides thorough track notes detailing key features such as access, length, time required, track conditions, climbing demands, places to stop for lunch and nearest refreshments and toilet facilities, Especially valuable is a guide to the suitability of walks for children of different ages. Each entry has a contour map showing the route clearly and accurately. Read in conjunction with the navigational directions in the track notes, the maps make finding the way very straightforward.

As track conditions can and often do change, track notes in the book are updated as frequently as possible. It is impossible to guarantee, however, that the updating matches all of the changes that have or are occurring.

There is detailed information in the first section that provides an overview of the geology and vegetation communities of the region. People interested in using this information on the walks will find that the track notes make reference to landform and vegetation features.

The book is designed to fit conveniently into your daypack.
