Cooled CCD Cameras

for Fluorescence Imaging

Hamamatsu

We supply a range of cooled CCD cameras, especially suitable for fluorescence microscopy, from Hamamatsu. All the models mentioned here are compatible with SimplePCI imaging software

These cameras are under continual development, so please feel free to consult us about your application and the latest camera models which would suit.

Hamamatsu ORCA series

Hamamatsu Cameras

Hamamatsu offers a full lineup of quality models covering such diverse needs as fluorescence imaging for fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), ultra-low light imaging for gene expression, contrast enhancement for low-contrast samples which can not be seen by differential interference contrast microscopy, and just about any other video microscopy application imaginable.

This page shows just some of our most popular camera models - please feel free to contact us to discuss how your particular needs might be met from your budget.

ORCA-AG, Deep Cooled Digital Camera

With very high quantum efficiency and low noise, this camera is designed for a wide range of applications including low light level imaging. A high performance serial bus IEEE 1394 is used as a computer interface. A standard C-mount lens coupling makes it easy to connect to optics such as optical microscopes.

  • Progressive scan interline CCD - shutterless
  • Extended range: high sensitivity in VIS-NIR region
  • IEEE 1394 (firewire) interface
  • Resolution 1344 x 1024; sub-array readout available
  • Cooled to -30 C (at 20 C ambient)
  • Frame rate 9 Hz (41 Hz with 8x8 binning)
  • 12-bit readout
  • dynamic range ~3000:1
  • exposure time 10 us to 4200 s

Hamamatsu ORCA-285

Orca-285 Datasheet (87kB)

ORCA-285 Camera

The ORCA-285 is an economical 12-bit camera using a progressive scan interline CCD with no shutter. High sensitivity offers a wide application range down to low light level imaging, while Peltier cooling drastically reduces dark noise and minimizes thermal drift.

  • Progressive scan interline CCD - shutterless
  • IEEE 1394 (firewire) interface
  • Resolution 1344 x 1024; sub-array readout available
  • Cooled to +30 C (at 20 C ambient)
  • Frame rate 9 Hz (41 Hz with 8x8 binning)
  • 12-bit readout
  • dynamic range ~2250:1
  • exposure time 10 us to 10 s

C8484-05 Datasheet (202kB)

C8484 Camera

The C8484 series are economical uncooled 12-bit camera using a progressive scan interline CCD with no shutter. High sensitivity offers a wide application range down to moderately low light level imaging, for exposures up to 1 second.

  • Progressive scan interline CCD - shutterless
  • IEEE 1394 (firewire) or CameraLink interface
  • Resolution 1344 x 1024; sub-array readout available
  • Frame rate up to 12 Hz (68 Hz with 8x8 binning)
  • 12-bit readout
  • dynamic range ~1700:1
  • exposure time 10 us to 1 s

C9100 Electron Multiplier Cameras

The C9100 series gathers together all the features you would expect in a top-end camera: high gain, high signal to noise ratio, high resolution and speed, thanks to a new generation EM-CCD sensor.

With on-chip multiplication technology of the EM-CCD sensor the signal is drastically boosted while readout noise value is kept less than 1 electron r.m.s. at high gain mode. The gain factor of the C9100 family is up to 2000, making really low light applications a breeze.

C9100-02

  • Frame transfer CCD with electronic shutter
