- using a miniature handheld computer as an event recorder (The Observer Mobile)
- from video tape or a video file with on-screen playback controls (The Observer Video-Pro)
Data analysis features
- a chronological listing of all recorded events, visualising the change of states and the occurrences of events in the course of time. |
- a graph in which observational data are plotted against time, giving a quick overview of what happened and when. |
- descriptive statistics on the frequency and duration of events or states, for subjects, individual behaviors, modifiers, and combinations. |
- examines how often certain events are preceded or followed by other events, for example how often a certain operation is followed by an error. |
- measures the level of agreement between pairs of raters, based on the degree of agreement between the scores in two data files. |
- exports the summary tables to spreadsheets, databases or statistics packages. |
